Peter Hucal – President
Peter graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, ON, with a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering. He is pursuing a career in the extractive resource industry, having worked for both oil & gas and mining majors. Peter is a competitive runner and enjoys playing squash and golf.
Heli Brecailo – VP Finance
Heli Brecailo is a Finance professional with nine years of experience in the Investment Management industry. He currently works as a Finance Consultant for small and mid-sized organizations in the GTA. Prior to that, he worked for six years in a private equity fund in Boston helping build a portfolio of US$560 million. He evaluated acquisitions in various parts of the world including Africa and set up and supervised the financial management of operating companies.
Chelsey Smith – VP Communications
Chelsey Smith (M.A.) is a communications and culture specialist and activist devoted to creating and engaging others in social change. She excels in social and digital strategy, capacity building, branding, and movement building. She has worked to support the rights of children in Ghana (2008), to combat gender-based violence in Swaziland (2013), and to rebrand a movement toward a transformative feminist society in Tanzania (2016). Working in international development and advocacy is a challenge that Chelsey tackles with fierce determination, creativity, and tenacity.
Daman Gill – VP Membership & Networking
Daman’s prior experience with EWB includes helping obtain corporate sponsorships for the 2015 R2EP (held as part of the 2015 Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon), and helping plan Member Learning events and a chapter retreat in 2017. He holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Daman is employed by Enercare Connections, where his work primarily entails product evaluation and training for new technologies for utility metering of multi-residential and commercial properties.
Alex Hucal – VP Corporate & Venture Partnerships
Alexander Hucal is a Professional Engineer with six years of experience, and is currently employed by Arup Canada Inc. Alexander’s has worked on a variety of public transit, healthcare, and education projects within the GTA and Alberta providing design management, municipal engineering and stormwater management design services. Alexander holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto.
Keenan Lamb – Corporate and Venture Partnership Lead
Keenan holds bachelor (civil) and master’s (hydrogeology) degrees in engineering from the University of New Brunswick. Keenan’s Master of Science in Engineering research focused on groundwater contamination from fertilizer derived nitrate (residual fertilizer from agricultural activities) in Prince Edward Island, where elevated groundwater and surface water nitrate poses a risk to potable water supplies and aquatic habitats. He currently works as a Groundwater Engineer with the Hydrogeology team at Wood Environment and Infrastructure Solutions, where his work focuses on various aspects of groundwater resources.
Janelle Devries – VP Water For The World
Passionate about Americanos and commuting on her road bike Janelle recently relocated from Calgary to work at an engineering firm in Toronto. Not an engineer by trade it was her background in International Relations that led her to apply for one of EWB’s Professional Fellowships in 2016. She found herself at Rent to Own, serving their mission to provide high-impact assets to micro-entrepreneurs in rural Zambia. She’s excited at the opportunity to continue her involvement with EWB through support of the Water for the World (W4TW) program and ecstatic to be engaging with an age group she truly enjoys, our youth.
Sigrid Grosseth – Member Learning Lead
Sigrid Grosseth has taken on the role of Member Learning Lead after volunteering with EWB’s Toronto Chapter Annual Fundraiser, which sparked her interest in getting more involved. After graduating from Queen’s University in Chemical Engineering, she moved to Toronto and is pursuing a MASc in Environmental Applied Science Management at Ryerson University. Her research focuses on environmental sustainability in the brewing industry.
